[00:05.38] Four days later, Holmes and I set off for Winchester to see the Wessex Cup.
[00:12.44] Colonel Ross met us at the racecourse.
[00:15.89] His face was grave and his manner was cold.
[00:23.65] "I have seen nothing of my horse," said he.
[00:29.76] "You would know him?" asked Holmes with a smile.
[00:35.56] "Of course," said Ross angrily.
[00:38.97] "With the white blaze on his head and the white mark on his four leg.
[00:43.91] Do you take me for a fool?"
[00:46.90] Holmes did not reply.
[00:49.66] He looked at the betting.
[00:53.36] "I see Silver Blaze is still favorite," was all he would say.
[01:02.96] "There are six in the race," I said.
[01:06.30] "And all six numbers are up.
[01:09.59] There must be six horses entered.
[01:13.95] But I don't see him," cried the Colonel.
[01:19.82] "Let us see how they run," replied Holmes with a confident smile.
[01:27.34] To begin with, the horses were all close together.
[01:31.81] Then Despra, the Mapleton horse took the lead.
[01:36.80] However, two furlongs from the winning post, a big bay horse swept into the lead and won easily by six lengths.
[01:48.89] "Let us go to the winner's enclosure," said Holmes and led the way.
[01:57.10] Once inside, he turned to the Colonel.
[02:01.73] Here is your horse.
[02:04.65] Just wash his face and his leg in spirit and you will recognize Silver Blaze.
[02:14.12] My horse!
[02:17.82] But how?
[02:22.35] I found him in the hands of a gentleman who is well versed in such things.
[02:30.76] To him, it was an easy matter to hide Silver Blaze's white markings.
[02:37.03] He was put in the race just as he looked when he arrived.
[02:41.89] The Colonel shook his head.
[02:48.37] You have done wonders, and I owe you an apology.
[02:54.39] You have found my horse.
[02:57.60] If only you could find the killer of John Straker.

[03:07.66] He is here," said Holmes.
[03:13.46] For a moment, the Colonel looked angry again.
[03:18.75] Then Holmes said, "The murderer is behind you.
[03:26.20] He put his hand on the neck of the horse.
