[00:00.41] Chapter 2. [00:02.13] The first prophecy fulfilled. [00:04.89] Unlike Macbeth, I had learned to respect the sister's prophecies. [00:11.34] Full of expectation, I watched for the story to unfold. [00:16.57] It was not long before the king's messenger reached Macbeth. [00:22.15] From the messenger Macbeth learned how his own reputation had soared. [00:32.73] King Duncan is keen to repay your efforts, said the messenger. [00:38.23] How? asked Macbeth eagerly. [00:42.10] With a new title, replied the messenger. [00:47.40] And what might that be? asked Macbeth. [00:51.90] Thane ofdor, replied the messenger. [00:58.23] These words were like a blinding sun to Macbeth. [01:03.94] But the than ofdor still lives, he objected. [01:09.55] His title has been stripped from him, replied the messenger. [01:14.11] He awaits trial for high treason. [01:20.95] Macbeth thanked the messenger, and to his face remained calm. [01:27.13] But the moment the messenger was gone, Macbeth seized Banquo by the wrist. [01:34.65] Those hags spoke the truth, he hissed. [01:39.79] Maybe, replied Banquo, still unconvinced. [01:47.71] Don't you want your children to be kings? urged Macbeth. [01:53.37] That was part of the same prophecy. [01:59.89] Maybe they already knew aboutdor, replied Banquo. [02:06.33] Maybe they gave us that little truth to poison our minds, to win us to some devious plan of theirs. [02:19.33] Macbeth heard the words, but was not listening to the meaning. [02:25.43] Inside his head, thoughts raged like a storm. [02:32.26] The hope of being king had taken root in him. [02:37.70] But how? [02:40.48] Would he have to make it happen himself? [02:45.59] Or should he simply wait for fortune to play its hand? [02:51.97] Macbeth, asked Banquo. [02:55.75] Are you with us? [02:59.81] Macbeth broke out of his private thoughts, and the two set off with their comrades in the direction of King Duncan. [03:08.78] Listen, Banquo, whispered Macbeth. [03:12.94] Let's think over what's happened today, then speak our minds freely to each other. [03:20.37] Gladly, replied Banquo. [03:25.73] I rested my eyes from the glass and laughed gently to myself. [03:32.05] Macbeth's darkest thoughts might be known to me, but to Banquo, that would never be.
