[00:03.29] In the big wide world.
[00:09.08] The day came that the little cub finally went through the wall of light, which was the entrance to the cave.
[00:16.18] He was growing up, and he simply had to know what lay beyond.
[00:22.98] At first, he was almost blinded by the brightness of the big wide world.
[00:30.77] But when nothing happened, he forgot to be scared.
[00:36.84] He sniffed at the grass, then he scrambled onto a fallen tree trunk.
[00:44.71] But the rotten bark gave way, and he went tumbling.
[00:50.97] He fell right into a nest of chicks.
[00:56.74] At first, he was terrified.
[01:01.91] But he was a born hunter, and without even thinking, he began catching and eating them.
[01:11.27] It was a wonderful game, and how clever he was.
[01:18.59] Then all of a sudden, the mother hen returned in a feathered frenzy.
[01:28.97] It was his first battle.
[01:34.78] He was a fierce little wolf, and he was afraid of nothing.
[01:40.49] He growled at her.
[01:44.97] She gave him a violent peck on his nose.
[01:51.72] Sensing he didn't know how to defend himself, the mother bird pecked again and again at his poor nose.
[02:01.33] He began to whimper.
[02:05.27] He didn't like this at all.
[02:10.45] The fight went out of him, and he scampered off shamefully to hide in the bushes.
[02:19.57] As he lay down, he felt a rush of air and a huge winged creature swept past.
[02:27.52] A hawk.
[02:32.98] It had barely missed him.
[02:37.69] Then he saw the hawk snatch up the mother hen in its powerful claws.
[02:47.39] He lay there for a long time, shivering.
[02:57.61] That was another big lesson.
[03:02.46] Live things were food, but some of them could hurt.
[03:12.05] It was better to eat little things.
[03:16.84] He felt a rush of pride.
[03:22.47] He had caught his own food, and he had fought a big bird, and would do it again.
[03:32.00] Then he remembered his mother.
[03:38.11] Suddenly, he wanted her more than anything.
[03:46.57] He felt lonely, and small, and desperate to be home.
[03:55.96] Back in the cave, he anxiously awaited his mother.
[04:03.82] She was out looking for him.
[04:09.93] When she returned, she was too overjoyed to find him safe to punish him.
[04:17.84] She licked him, and then curled around him, and they both drifted off to sleep.
